WTF M$

I don't normally post tech news/criticism on here, but I'm so outraged by this I have to vent.
Microsoft, after doing a super duper craptacular job rolling out WinVista, has decided to roll out Windows 7 pronto.
And in order to fight off the popularity of Netbooks and lightweight machines running Linux, they are pitching a "Windows 7 Starter Edition".
Which limits users to running 3 (count em three) applications at one time.
WTF.
Are they deliberately trying to shoot themselves in the foot?

The starter editions for Vista were never made available in the states. They were sold super cheap in places of the world without the best copyright protection in an attempt to defeat full piracy of Windows. I have no idea how well it worked for them, but if they're doing it again, they must have felt it was somewhat successful.

Sure, they'd rather people be paying them money for Windows than running free Linux, but I don't think that's what this move is about. But, I do agree that they're trying to put Vista behind them as fast as possible. It's about as popular as Windows ME.

I am so glad you convinced me to buy an XP machine last year.

Three? Does that count all the little virus scanners and stuff running in the tray? Because I have more than three of those ANYWAY.

Damn, I'm glad my year-old laptop has XP Pro on it.
